oh today got few lame jokes.. i watched the show on 8TV and the jokes are really quite lame.. hahaha.. but one needs to have some knowledge of hokkien or teowchew dialek to be able to understand it fully..
i would translate it however, but it loses it's 'umph-ness' i suppose.. hehehe
this guy in this show same up to the main actor and actress claiming to do magic trick
he claims that he can change 'chap koh' (10 bucks) into 'chit chap koh' (70 bucks)
so he took out a 10 bucks and a handkerchief, started to scrub the money
and he says 'chit chap koh' ah 'chit chap koh'... 'chit', besides being '7', it also means 'scrub' or 'rub'
so when he took out the handkerchief and start scrubbing the money, it literally means 'chit(scrub) chap koh(10 bucks)'
so the joke is 'chit chap koh'(70 bucks) = 'chit(scrub) chap koh(10 bucks)'
after that joke, he did another joke using the same 10 bucks... this time he says he can change it into 60 bucks(lak chap koh)
so he starts to drop his 10 bucks and say 'lak chap koh' ah 'lak chap koh'
besides 6, 'lak' also means drop
so 'lak chap koh'(60 bucks) = 'lak(drop) chap koh(10 bucks)'
then with the same 10 bucks again.. he says he can change it into 80 bucks (puek chap koh)
so he started to tear the 10 bucks and say 'pek chap koh' ah 'pek chap koh'
the meaning of 'pek' is to tear and although the pronounciation is not the same, it is similiar to 'puek'(eight)..
so 'puek chap koh'(80 bucks) = 'pek(tear) chap koh(10 bucks)'
lame? a bit ler.. hee~
God Bless
