Handbags

o.O... what's a guy going to blog about handbags? hahaha

Now today i read an article in the star by Dzof Azmi where he talks about handbags and snatch thief. So he started by a question asked by his friends "How ah can we prevent snatch thief?" And that, i think is an interesting question, but of course, the more interesting part is the answer.

He came up with a few answers. The first being increasing the number of policeman on patrol. These law enforcing figure would instill fear on the thieves and thus, less incidents would happen. But i think we have a lack of law enforcers right? and these policemen have better things to do (like controlling street protest and capturing *cough cough* Anwar). so well, this idea does not really fit in.

So, comes the second idea, which is to have handbags that are easily ripped off once there is a struggle. The idea of this is that the person's safety is of utmost important and the handbag? well it goes to the thief la, as long as the person is safe, that's the end of the story. But then, this idea does not curb or lessen snatch thief does it? on the contrary, it might increase the number of snatch thief cause handbags are so easy to be snatched..

then comes the third solution which he (and i) thinks that it's the BEST. DON'T CARRY A HANDBAG. Simple right? if u don't carry a handbag, then there will be no handbags to be snatched. If really, all Malaysian were to practice this, I would be quite confident that the incident of snatch thief will be reduce to nil. But if females don't carry handbags, the question comes then, where do they put their purse(s). Well they can use smaller ones and keep it in their pocket, like how men do. :D

Now we come to the multi million question.. Jeng Jeng Jeng.. then where do they put their lipstick, mascara, eyeliners, moisturiser, blackhead removing sandpaper etc. etc.?? and to this question, Azmi replied that "Listen, if Man figured out a way to compress all of the world's knowledge into a chip made of sand measuring a mere one micron thick, then making a smaller powder applicator can't be beyong his reach"

And yes, i think it's a very rational argument. but then comes the ultimate defence by women. "but pocket don't look nice. nobody wants to wear a skirt or a low-cut pair of jeans if there were things in pockets around the waist area. It'll make me look fat" AH.. now that's the real problem.. women want to look nice and pretty and because of that, incidents of snatch thief increases.

Azmi continued "We need to admit this one point, that handbags are a vanity item for women. It's not strictly necessary for them to carry one around and, if they think they are at risk from thieves, then they should not carry them"

Of course, i think it would help to try and understand y do females want to look pretty right? it might be partly due to the societal pressure to look nice, or maybe it's just inborn (which i kinda doubt) or maybe they want to look nice to attract guys. And guys, you have to admit that you do want ladies to look nice.

So how? the solution came up by Azmi is that "ladies should forget the idea of being independant and accept that your vanity is a sign you are a lady. get a nice polite gentleman who is willing to escort you as you make your way about town on foot. And make sure he's fit enough for the job."

God Bless~
