When we were young and haven't know the value of money, we make birthday cards for our loved ones.
When we grew a bit older and started to know money, we have 'less time' and we bought cards for them.
When we grew a little bit more, and have more money, cards are no longer enough. We buy presents to show our love.
The present you bought might not be suitable for that person. And he/she might give it out to someone else. But a customized birthday card would remain with that person forever.
Maybe it's time we go back to the 'small little us' and start making handmade cards again.
