Paradox

I guess many of you guys knows about the story of Adam and Eve... Adam and Eve was created by God and they were asked not to eat the fruit at the middle of Garden of Eden.. But a serpent tempted Eve to eat the fruit and then she gave it to Adam..

and so they were banished from the Garden of Eden..

and that was the beginning... or at least according to Christians believe..

However, today when i was reading Social Psych book, i came across something paradoxical(to the extend of being humourous) to the so called 'beginning'...

"In the beginning was not the word, not the deed, not the silly serpent. In the beginning was why? Why did she pluck the apple? Was she bored? Was she inquisitive? Was she paid? Did Adam put her up to it? If not, who did?"

hurmss.. in the beginning was the 'why?'... cool? kinda cool

Brain and Mind

Brain and mind.. are there differences between them? of course

brain is the physical lump you and i have in our skull.. whereas mind is our thought, ideas, or simply our 'thinking'

so how do the mind come about when it is not a physical entity? according to the law of physics, things can change form from energy to matter, or from matter to energy, while conserving the energy (meaning energy before transformation = energy after transformation).. something cannot come from nothing. something needs to come from something..

if this law of physics is true, then what forms our mind? from where did this something come from?

hmm.. interesting no? and the answer to this question is.... jeng jeng jeng..

i don't know.. that is what the biopsychologist and cognitive psychologist are finding out.. hehehe..

Of Spiders and Functions

Think of this for a moment...

Why do spiders want to build webs?

Very much like me, and all the other people, your answer might be very well... to catch flies la.. or to catch their food..

"We may think that a spider builds a web to catch flies, but this is true only at the functional level. There is no evidence that spiders have any idea what webs are for. In other words, a behavior's purpose says nothing about its underlying motives." (de Waal, 2003, p. 25, cited in Smith, Nolen-Hoeksema, Fredickson & Loftus)

That got me wondering.. about what people do which seems to be profitable only at a functional level, but in essence, they don't really know why they do what they do...

For example, why do guys GENERALLY (generally cause i am not one of them) adores football so much, and at the same time, why do females GENERALLY adores shopping so much?

From the surface, it seems that guys like football cause it's enjoyable? (i really don't know y ok.. it's just a guess) and women likes shopping to.... equip themselves with.... cloths to protect themselves? ok.. maybe both of them has to do with the social surroundings.. it is a generalization that men loves football and women loves shopping, so if i am a guy/girl then i should like football/shopping

Funtional purpose.. socializing.. make sense?

So what are the underlying motives then? i don't know..

Why did i gave an example of football and shopping? Because i read an intresting article entitled True love is .... football by A. Asohan.

According to him.. "it was every woman’s dream to find a beau who’s not into football. Just like it’s every man’s dream to find a woman who’s not into shopping, I guess." (Asohan, 2008)

Social Psychologists

What do social psychologists do?

They do what normal psychologist do, try to investigate, predict then control humans' behavior, thinking and feeling.. but they also take into account the social surrounding, the environmental factor that might influence people.

A simple example to illustrate..

Suppose u sms someone, and that person didn't reply.. u called and that person didn't pick up youir call.. what do u think?

That person might be busy and didn't notice it, or he/she might not like you and purposely avoid you, or you might think that he/she is a arrogant person who don't want to reply you..

all in all.. it's that person's fault for not answering you or replying you..

suppose now u know his/her situation..

phone in silent mode, coincidently, when you called, he/she was out or in the toilet...

now.. it isn't totally that person's fault is it? this is what social psychologist do.. they take into account the social environment and attribute people's behavior to their social surroundings, to a certain extend la..

hmm.. someone i tell you...

that is how i was awaken.. by my aunt's screaming.. she sounded so terrified, as if she saw a ghost or something really horrible..

i woke up and asked her.. why aunty?

got thief arr..

that was my scream after i hear her say that.. i screamed (got such word?) quite loudly.. to scare the theif off i think..

she continued screaming when i screamed

then i asked her.. where?

there la.. outside the window... he used a stick.. she replied.. i switched on the light and took a look.. the stick is still there, but i didn't see anyone..

with both my scream and my aunt's scream.. suprise suprise, my bro can still sleep and he didn't wake up.. hahaha.. then woke him up and he checked.. his handphone gone.. the thief almost stole my 2 bags, but he failed cause my aunt came into the room just in time..

then my bro called the cops and then the rest was history la.. went back to sleep...

9 a.m something..

the police came the second time to take some photos.. and then i went back to sleep...

11.30 a.m.

finally woke up.. and everything that happened is like soooo yesterday.. had breakfast and then... played dota and then had my lunch

after lunch, i packed my things.. my dad asked me to clean up my stuffs cause i have been keeping all the books, papers and things since form 5.. hahaha..

clean clean.. most of the stuffs throw it away.. and i bumped into some really memorable pictures.. pictures of when i was in form 2 right up till form 5... class photos, as well as photos taken during church activities.. memories came back in an instant..

those were the days.. so much have changed since then.. ah.. i miss those days

so much things happened in a day.. be careful and
