Play Therapy

One of the place we visited on the Education trip is a place called BOLD which stands for Bureau of Learning Difficulties. This place conduct play therapy, a place provided specially for children who uses play as a form of therapy.

While there, we were given some briefing about play therapy as well as being shown the room where play therapy is held. After that, we were given an activity to do. Lots of toys were placed in front of us (toys as in miniatures, like small ultraman doll or Astroman). We were asked to picked any one and then draw a picture, any picture that comes to mind. We were also asked to write a word to describe it.


So this is my miniature

Sorry if it is not that clear. The word written there is CLOSED. After coming back, i drew another picture which i think might depict it better, but a little bit more hard to interpret i guess.. hahaha


The same word will still apply here. Although the drawing might differ a bit, the meaning still stands the same. *I know my drawing is not nice* Oh oh.. and talking about these drawing, lets give a ranking. After all of us finished drawing, each one were to show their picture and say the word out. So out of all those pictures, I would rank the top three. And the best picture and word goes to....*drums roll*

1. Chew Cha Loo with the word "Princess-ing" (=.=!!! how could she not get no. 1 with that right? Have to give her the credit.. ROFL)
2. Kimberly with the word "Evil"
3. Hmm.. I actually could come with a third placing. So I would just award myself.. XD

Other common themes were peace, hope and Mr. Kuma's "nephews".

Reason of Existence

I'm back!! Back from where u might ask? Back from my Education Trip. Went to places like Half Way Home, Penang Hospital, BOLD and Hospital Bahagia

Well, Half Way Home is a place where rehabilitation takes place for people who have just came out of Hospital Bahagia. They were given things to do so as to improve their Daily Life Activities (DLA). So why do people in Half Way home need rehab? It's because Hospital Bahagia is an asylum for mental patients. So after they are treated, they need to be rehab before being sent home. That's what Half Way home is for.

Albeit the stigma of almost everyone regarding the 'mental hospital', Hospital Bahagia is actually a very nice place. I would say it's AWESOME. Very peaceful and surely, the place is HUGE. This is where patients who have mental illness are treated. We were given the opportunity to visit the wards and it was a great experience.

As I was walking around visiting the wards (we were taken to the females ward), I started to think. What is their existence here on earth? I strongly believe that everyone exist here on Earth for a reason, whatever the reason might be. So what is theirs? One of my friend told me how pity they were and basically how 'cham' (miserable or sad) their lives are. But I look at it a different way. Sad of course their lives are, but I guess they are there for a reason.

So what might be some of the reasons be?Maybe they are there to give the nurses lessons. I mean life lessons such as building up patience and working gently with people. Maybe they are there so as to help doctors to better understand the problem so that other people who are having the same problem could be addressed more effectively. Or maybe it could just simply be to give us (us meaning the normal population) an insight of how blessed we are. Count your blessings!!

These patients there, some have lived over 50 years in there. And any one of them can simply put youngsters to shame. We always whine about how hard our lifes are, how unfair we are treated, what we are lacking, how life could be better "if .....", and youngsters give up their life so easily by commiting suicide. These people here have mental illness and yet they survived. They struggle with their lives so hard everyday, and here, we the "normal population" whine about how miserable our lives are.

In conclusion (whoah.. sounds like an essay right? XD), 2 things can be learnt from here:

1. What is your Reason(s) of Existance (RoE)?
2. Count your blessings. You would see that life is not that bad, and after you have found your reason of existance, life would be MEANINGFUL.

Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus

OK.. i might be sued for plagiarising.. but hopefully i won't get sued ok..

Today i went to Popular bookstore while my dad and sis were in church (doesn't mean i didn't go ok.. i went, but they got meeting and sunday classes which doesn't invlove me)

so while they were busy with their stuffs, i went to Leisure Mall and went to Popular to read some books (yes.. i am that studious.. XD XD) i read some comic books before got bored of it and went for something more interesting.. then i fumbled across this book





So.. men are from mars and women from venus huh? i have heard of this book before but didn't tought much about it.. so since today i had the chance to read it (for free), y not? haha

first and foremost.. this book is awesome.. y? because it really does tackle the problems among males and females..and the central theme of the book is this

DIFERRENCES AND LEARNING HOW TO ACCEPT DIFFERENCES

i glance through very quickly through the overview of the book and very quickly, i saw one very interesting topic which caught my attention. Chapter 5 on communication. basically, as all of you are already aware, guys and girls speak different languages (ok let me rephrase that.. same language with different meanings and conotations)

Women, or females speak METAPHORICALLY so as to fully express themselves. Whereas men mean whatever they say LITERALLY. so meaning women don't really mean what they say and men do..

for example, look at these following diologue

Women: We never go on dates
Men: That's not true, we went on a date last Friday

Women: Nobody cares about me
Men: Don't be silly. Aren't i sitting here?

You see.. when women says that "we never go on dates" she don't really mean never. It is her was of expressing herself that she wants to go on a date with you. take a time off and spend some time with her alone, out of the working scope. Men on the other hand translate it as literally never and thus the reply would probably make the partner feel even worse off.

When women says nobody cares for them, they know that it isn't literally nobody. but she just want reassurance that you are there for her (exaggeration anyone?). yes you might be sitting next to her, but are u really there and gave some time into caring about her? what she really wants is to get your attention so that you can care for her. guys of course, again translate it literally and dismisses it as a non biggie.

now consider these 2 dialogues

Male: I am OK
Female: I am willing to listen to you

Male: I will handle this problem myself
Female: I would be more than please if i could help you out/ come on, i know there is a problem.. now tell me.

So, when guys say that they are OK, it means they are OK. yes, they might not be ok, but then they want to keep to themselves and that is how we (meaning other males including me) come in terms with our problems. you see, when guys are faced with difficulty or problems, they would withdraw into the 'cave' where we would want to be alone and literally alone. so when guys say they will handle the problem themselves, let them be. unlike females, guys don't talk metaphorically and probing further would worsen the condition. (just like how unprobing men can be to women's complaints)

another very intriguing thing for women i think would be silence. when their guy partner is silent, what do they mean? when females see that their males are silent, more often than not, they interpret it as a very bad situation if not a worst case scenario..

the fact is that men just don't know what to say. in essence, they are thinking "i don't know what to reply you. but i am working on it.. just give me some time." according to Dr. Gray, men keep silent so as not to say or do something that might hurt their partner, and because they don't know what to say, they keep silent.

all in all it boils down to one thing. Women speak metaphorically and men speak literally. Something like Frued's latent meaning (women) and manifest content (guys). and it leads back to the central theme of the book

DIFFERENCES AND LEARNING HOW TO ACCEPT DIFFERENCES

i strongly encourage everyone to buy this book as it will be a good read and a source of leisure.. anyone who bought it can then borrow it to me. XD

How do Japanese say America?

Lol.. this is the question that came out from my friend's mouth today while eating lunch.. for privacy's sake (and to save this person's face.. rofl) let's call this person X

so today was the final examination for Marketing and after writing a whole lot of essays until my hand was numb, the exam ended.. let's see.. i think i wrote about 10 full pages i think.. so after finish exam, went to makan lunch with 2 friends

so eating eating.. talk talk.. then suddenly X came out with this question

"Eh.. you know how Japanese say America?"

X: America (pronounced: eh-meah-ri-cah, with the meah sounding a little higher)

me and my other friend was like... =.=;!!!

i got so grabbed (jadou) that i hit my forehead with my hand, bang my head on the table and after that turned over the table..

well actually that's not true.. :) i was actually eating and when the answer came out, it struck me so hardly lame that i choked on my spoon and spit out my food to my other friend

well.. that's not true either.. :) hahaha.. i just got so jadou la.. totally speechless when the answer is like that.. haih..

k k .. enough talking about people's bad thing.. :p

View on Love

There is this new chinese drama on air by the name of 'The Placebo Cure'. the show is quite nice where it talks about 3 experts, a psychologist, a psychiatrist and a fortune teller. haha.. but as the title says, most part is concerning psychological treatment la..

besides the point that this drama revolves around a psychologist, another thing i like about the show is how similiar the main actor (psychologist) and i are. i don't mean it in terms of looks la of course.. i mean in terms of how we look (or more precisely, his character) looks at love

this psychologist goes by the name Dr. Man and he had a record of no more than 3 months. everytime he goes into a relationship with a girl, it only lasted 3 months.. reason being he is a little conservative.. i remember some of the conversations quite nicely and i shall type it out here..

Scene 1: Dr. Koo (Dr. Man's mentor) talks to Stella (the company's receptionist)

Stella: Eh, the girl always come and find Dr. Man, do you think they are in a relationship?
Dr. Koo: Well, it depends how you defind 'being in a relationship'.
Stella: Well, going out together, watching movie and kissing lo
Dr. Koo: They haven't reach the end part yet.
Stella: Then i hope this time Dr. Man can pass through the 3 months ler.. everytime after 3 months, he will comes back single
Dr. Koo: Ah.. this is not his fault.. this happens because all the girls have no patience to wait for him to close the gap between them and be intimate..

Scene 2: Dr. Man talking to his families

Mum: Son ar.. when are u going to bring back a girl and introduce to us? even your busy brother and sister have people going after them.. but from you, no news at all
Dr. Koo: Mum arr... i won't bring a girl back unless i am in a stable relationship with her
Mum: Haih.. even i your mum which is a school headmistress is not as conservative as you. You can think of it as introducing an additional friend so that me and your dad can know her right?
Dr. Koo: Whatever la... i won't bring back a girl unless i am serious about it

Scene 3: Dr. Koo talking to Dr. Man while they were playing golf

Dr. Koo: You know your own weakness right? you always go slow in a relationship, and everytime when 3 months arrive, the girl will have lost their patience and leave you
Dr. Man: I know, but these things can't be hurried ma.. didn't you know? if you want to boil good soup, you must lower the fire and boil it for a long time..
Dr. Koo: well.. there are always pressure cooker

hmm.. i think all i have the same views like Dr. Man.. i don't know why, but then i don't really would go after someone if i don't know her well enough.. i would need to take time to understand her better to see whether or not she suits me.. and i definitely won't bring anyone home unless it's serious and in stable condition la..

but i think my opinion is abit outdated no? still, i am fine being this conservative. i will have a good time wathching how Dr. Man progresses, both as a psychologist and in his love life.. hahaha

I love One Piece

Pop quiz..

what does a rubber man, a skeleton, a talking and transforming reindeer have in common?
they are all a part of a pirate crew.. hahah

Huh? what is One Piece? it's a japanese manga and it's really really good to read.. it talks about how this pirate by the name of Luffy wants to be the pirate king and how along his journey, he managed to find very good 'nakamas'

what really attracts me to this manga is how creative the story line is. the things happening in the world of this story is extraordinarily special... how did the drawer came up with the superb awesome storyline really is a mystery to me.. he is thinking out of the box

people often ask us to think out of the box.. but whether we realise it or not, we are conditioned not to think outside the box from young.. asking too much 'whys' can cause u into trouble.. and so we abide by the rules and norms set by people before us..

reading this manga gives me a sense of enjoyment, fulfillment as well as a sense of adventure. imagination that could be taught up only by kids (i don't mean childish imagination, rather raw creative imagination) is fully enbedded in this manga..

a great salute to Eiichiro Oda and crew...
